| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
5 January, 2007 Fur Design Competition 2007 With strong commitment to cultivating budding talents, Hong Kong's Fur Design Competition plays a pivotal role to attract young designers and inject new life into fur fashion. Mr. Christopher Lam, Chairman of Young Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Fur Federation, said Hong Kong furriers and designers have successfully combined state-of-the-art techniques with excellent craftsmanship to produce original fur for various needs of modern fashion. Mr. Lam said the annual Fur Design Competition has gained strong industry support over the last two decades, effectively bringing up young talents and encouraging them to pursue a career in the fur industry. “The design contest provides local design students a great chance to show their talent in creating fur fashions and to work with manufacturers to produce stylish garments,” he said. Organized by the Hong Kong Fur Federation, the Fur Design Competition 2007 will be in the spotlight under the theme of The Myriad Facets of Luxe, which draws inspirations from the beauty and complexity of modern form architect to enrich the intricate depth and layering in the fur structure. Participating students are exploring the flair and versatility of fur with respect to the theme's four highlighted scenes – the feminine approach of ROUND with soft lines and curvy silhouette; RECTANGULAR's clean and modern chic in linear structure; the funky style with different layering in RUGGED; and the grand and bold concept of VOLUMATIC in rich colors. As a special highlight to the event, eight renowned Hong Kong fashion designers will take their creative designs to the stage at the “Designers Love Fur” epilogue, the grand finale of the annual extravaganza tonight (Friday, 5 January 2007). The inspiring collection from Ms. Bonita Cheung, Mr. Arthur Lam, Mr. Richard Li, Mr. Walter Ma, Mr. William Tang, Mr. Benny Yeung, Mr. Kevin Yeung and Ms. Lu Lu Cheung, manufactured by members of the Federation definitely adds glamour and excitement to the show. A total of 380 sketches were submitted by contestants to this year's competition and 44 designs have been selected for final judging at InterContinental Hong Kong this evening. Among them are 29 pieces of work for the Full Fur Category and 15 pieces for the Fur Combination Category. In addition to the regular prizes, the organizer again presents the Creativity Award and the Best Sketch Award this year. “Hong Kong Fur Design Competition is a valuable breeding ground for new talent and all participants have demonstrated strong commitment and skills in creating fur fashions. We hope the awards will give students recognition and encourage them to explore further their originality and design talent,” Mr. Lam said. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated efforts of all the participating members of the Hong Kong Fur Federation for producing fabulous fur garments as well as support from the sponsors and the panel of judges including Ms. Sheren Tang and Ms. Dee Poon, which made this year's competition a resounding success. The contest has secured overwhelming support from both lecturers and students of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Institute of Textiles and Clothing, the Institute of Vocational Education (Kwai Chung)'s Department of Fashion and Textiles, the Clothing Industry Training Authority's Department of Design and Manufacture and the Caritas Bianchi College of Careers' Department of Fashion and Textiles, as well as members of the Hong Kong Fur Federation. The students participating in the competition have shown strong creativity to produce some original and stylish fur designs. Their continued development and maturity will provide fresh impetus to the fur industry and strengthen Hong Kong's competitiveness in the global fur market. Special thanks to Hong Kong Fashion Designers

(The Myriad Facets of Luxe)
