Innovation Brings Lightness and Vitality into Fur More than 2,000 international buyers will attend the Fur Gala 2007 tonight (26 Feb) to preview the latest collections from 20 leading Hong Kong fur manufacturers and fashion designers while enjoying a sumptuous Chinese banquet. The Gala evening is the highlight of Hong Kong's biggest ever fur event - the Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair - which opens to international traders today till 1 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Fair is widely recognized as the most important event worldwide for fur trade, providing everything from expensive clothing and full fur garments to fancy materials as well as accessories. New techniques in manufacturing and dressing have made fur a popular fabric for all seasons. The days of bulky skins are gone. Staying at the forefront of the market, Hong Kong furriers employ plucking, knitting and shearing techniques to produce lightweight fur fashion. What’s captivating designers and consumers in particular is the versatility of fur that comes in new colours and combines with other fabrics in fresh look and style. Tonight, the spectacular Fur Gala fashion show features Hong Kong furriers' and designers' exciting creations for the coming season, from romantic and modern look to casual and elegant styles. Extraordinary patterns and textures come into play with advanced laser technology while the complex use of materials such as chiffon, leather and mohair creates beautiful layering effects. Among the collections are sexy silhouettes with pattern cutting in circles, designs with pom poms, frills, ruffles and draping details, as well as trendy looks enriched by lace flower, jewels, crystals, embroideries and mink trimmings. A variety of techniques such as grooving, nappa treatment, laser leather and hand-paints are also employed to produce surprises in textures and details.
